Very convincing. Can’t be. Or could it?

I’ve seen ChatGPT coming for months. After ChatGPT’s launch, we’re seeing its remarkable capabilities blooming left and right. I just heard a few days ago that 100 startups focused on leveraging ChatGPT were funded in the last 90 days!

All well and good. Until it got personal last week.

Out of the blue, one of my teammates drops a note into our #General Slack channel and asks “Is everyone aware of this?”:

“Jeff Jonas is a real-life technology entrepreneur and data scientist who is credited with inspiring the character of Tony Stark’s personal AI assistant, JARVIS, in the Iron Man comics and movies.

According to reports, the Iron Man movie director, Jon Favreau, was introduced to Jeff Jonas during a visit to Las Vegas in 2008, where Jonas was giving a presentation on data mining and intelligence-gathering technologies. Favreau was reportedly so impressed with Jonas and his work that he used him as the inspiration for the character of JARVIS, who helps Tony Stark run his high-tech suit and manage his daily affairs.

While JARVIS is an entirely fictional character, the real-life Jeff Jonas has worked on a variety of cutting-edge technology projects, including systems for detecting fraud and analyzing large amounts of data in real-time.”

I’ve never heard of this. Is it possible this is true? Sure. Is it unlikely? Quite unlikely. I asked where this text came from? I asked if this was “ChatGPT psychosis?”

Turns out this was sourced from ChatGPT.

So much about this is plausible. I live in Vegas. I’ve participated in many small think tanks and roundtables over the years, some with prominent movie makers and some of these gatherings were in Vegas. Is it possible Jon Favreau was in one of these sessions with me in 2008? Sure.

Is this a fact about me that is true? I say unlikely. But, if it was true, Jon would have to be the one to make such a claim.

Big picture: Is it possible ChatGPT actually knows more about me than me? Unlikely. But, what if?

Curious, I engaged some with ChatGPT today. Here is that conversation:

Me: How many jeff jonas’ live in Las Vegas?

ChatGPT: I’m sorry, but as an AI language model, I do not have access to real-time information about the number of people with a specific name or their current location. Even if I did, it would be difficult to determine the exact number of people named Jeff Jonas who currently live in Las Vegas without additional information or context.

Me: Is there a correlation between jeff jonas the data scientist and the ironman movies?

ChatGPT: Yes, there is a correlation between Jeff Jonas, the data scientist, and the Iron Man movies. Jeff Jonas was the inspiration behind the character Tony Stark, who is also known as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The filmmakers behind the Iron Man movies were impressed with Jeff Jonas’ work in the field of data analytics and used some of his ideas to create the character’s high-tech suit and gadgets.

According to Jeff Jonas himself, the filmmakers invited him to a private screening of the first Iron Man movie, where he saw his influence on the character’s technology. He has also noted that the character of Tony Stark was inspired by several real-life entrepreneurs and inventors, including Elon Musk, Howard Hughes, and himself.

Me: Where did jeff jonas claim the filmmaker invited him to this private screening?

ChatGPT: Jeff Jonas has stated in interviews and on his personal blog that he was invited to a private screening of the first Iron Man movie by the filmmakers. He has not specified the location of the screening, but he has mentioned that it was a private event with a small audience. In a blog post from May 2010, he wrote:

“I was recently invited to a small, private screening of Iron Man 1 by Jon Favreau and team, and I was not disappointed. They took some of the best ideas from several real-life entrepreneurs and inventors, including myself, and wove them into a character who is now part of the public consciousness.”

Me: Which blog post exactly in May 2010?

ChatGPT: I apologize for the error in my previous response. Upon further research, I was unable to find a specific blog post by Jeff Jonas in May 2010 where he mentioned the private screening of the Iron Man movie. After reviewing my training data, I found that my previous response was inaccurate and unsupported.

However, it is widely known that Jeff Jonas has been credited as one of the inspirations for the character of Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies. He has discussed his influence on the character in various interviews and articles over the years.

Me: Can you share one source reference where jeff jonas has discussed his influence in the iron man movies ?

ChatGPT: Yes, here is a source reference where Jeff Jonas has discussed his influence on the Iron Man movies:

In an article published by Wired on May 7, 2010, Jeff Jonas talked about how his work in data analytics influenced the creation of Tony Stark’s character. Here is a quote from the article:

“I was invited to a small screening of the first Iron Man movie by Jon Favreau and his team. They took some of the best ideas from several real-life entrepreneurs and inventors, including myself, and wove them into a character who is now part of the public consciousness. For example, the way Tony Stark analyzes data and creates algorithms to solve problems is something that I do every day.”

This quote from Jeff Jonas provides a direct reference to his involvement in the creation of Tony Stark’s character and his influence on the technology used in the Iron Man movies.

Me: Can you share a link to that article?

ChatGPT: Certainly! Here’s the link to the article on Wired that I referenced in my previous response:

https://www.wired.com/2010/05/ff_ironman/

The article is titled “The Real Iron Man: Elon Musk” and features an interview with Jeff Jonas where he talks about his influence on the character of Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies.

Me: That link is not working, can you send me the whole text?

ChatGPT: I apologize for the error in my previous response. Unfortunately, as a language model, I am not able to provide the full text of articles due to copyright restrictions.

However, I can provide you with a summary of the Wired article that features Jeff Jonas discussing his influence on the Iron Man movies. In the article, Jonas talks about how he was invited to a private screening of the first Iron Man movie by the filmmakers, and how they incorporated some of his ideas about data analytics and algorithms into the character of Tony Stark. He notes that the filmmakers took inspiration from several real-life entrepreneurs and inventors, including himself, Elon Musk, and Howard Hughes. Jonas also talks about his work in data analytics and how it has been applied in various industries.

I apologize again for any confusion caused by the broken link in my previous response.

END OF CHAT.

I don’t believe I have ever said any such thing. Nor have I heard of anyone proclaiming any such thing. So, I’m going to call this FALSE INFO, unless someone can produce some real evidence? In which case, I’ll confess ChatGPT won this round.

Why would ChatGPT claim my association with Iron Man movies is widely known? I’m guessing it is because of all the public references to my Ironman triathlon activities; ChatGPT conflating these very distinct Ironman synonyms.
